I agree with Bigduke6 on both counts. Thats one of the nicest hookies I've seen - and the markings are like he says.
Isn't it funny how the nicest remaining hookies have always got the Reserve markings on them - figures.!!

This subject revolves around what publication a forumer should believe. An original copy of The Equipment Regulations or a self publication by an enthusiast. I am as open minded as the next bloke

The 1900 to 1944 equipment regulations, which I've just borrowed from the technical library, which I am holding in my grubby little mitts, appendix 52, list 1 on page 548 to 570 states quite clearly what the regimental markings will be. And DT is not Dorset. There have been a couple of 'cross-overs, such as SHROP and SALOP for Shropshire but nothing like this applies to Dorset.

If it makes anyone feel better without upsetting the apple cart, then I'll say that it IS Dorset. It's not of course, but like I say, that's what the good, but very old book says.

What's ironic is that where I've quoted this and similar books before, no ones batted an eye lid

Personally I still think your looking at the wrong book, how about using this one perhaps.
"Instructions for Armourers, 1912."
App. IX Para V. Arms held for Mobilization (For Infantry and A.O.C. Reservists)
Will be marked with Corps marks and consecutive numbers, the latter being preceded by the letter R.

Oooooh that was a bit unkind and below the belt Shipping steel! I don't remember saying or implying that 'enthusiasts' were simple. Nothing of the sort - in fact, they're a great bunch of people and without them, we wouldn't have a forum.

Regarding the thread..... I wanted to keep it to PM's but without putting too fine a point on it, when I did - and it's only fair to say so - you replied that you didn't give a xxxx. So on that basis we'll leave it that your book says one thing and the official 1902 book with amendments up until 1944 says another.

A bit OTT if you ask me, but if people are willing to pay that much then it puts a smile on the sellers face as well. In the UK they vary and start around £350 for good condition.
