    P-1907 lee enfield bayonet info

Hi all, I have attached some photos of a bayonet that i recently purchased from an antique fair. As you can see it is in reasonable condition. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this item as i believe it may be interesting with the stamps (EFD) on the blade and the base of the grip which I imagine is the enfield mark. There are also some marks on the scabbard which i haven't photographed these are: A J in a diamond, G.F.B (I think) and also either MS, M6, M8 or those marks other way up. If anyone could help me i would be very grateful. thankyou

The frog is an early P-08 leather one. The bayonet itself was made in March of 1911 by Enfield. The scabbard is for the US Model 1917 Bayonet, BUT is correct for use by the Britishicon home guard in WW II. DON'T try to swap it out for and '07 scabbard as it is part of the history of your bayonet. You managed to acquire a very interesting and genuine piece.

The frog is from the P1939 leather equipment and is a leather version of the webbing P1937 frog. P1939 frogs are commonly found on US M1917 scabbards used by the Home Guard with P1907, P1913, and M1917 bayonets.

Nice bayonet. Pre-WWI dated P1907's are not common. Originally it would have had a hooked quillion, but it has been officially removed.

It is common to find these Home Guard frogs on P-17 scabbards. Sometimes they have been sewn on in course of making the frog. Sometimes the double wire hook has been removed, probably because it kept catching on things.

    Matt1922,

Nice early bayonet, but I would say this bayonet and scabard have been mated in recent times and not WW2 (Home Guard), if an SMLE was available to issue to the Home Guard then the correct bayonet, scabbard and frog would of been available.
