M1 Carbine hunt loads

Does anyone have any good recommendations for deer hunting loads for my carbine?
I do not want to use round nose bullets. I am looking for bullet recs., 110 gr and also powder loads. It will be for an area with HEAVY brush, maybe 40 yards shot at the most.

Lyman makes a pointed 30 cal bullet about 120 gr gas check. Use 2400 and with full loads and they give decent performance for lead. If you want to make them round nose you just change the top punch when sizing. Remember, shot placement is everything.

I want a bullet that will open up. I hunt small properties, I need a well placed shot and a bullet that maximizes stopping ability.

B.A.R. is right, shot placement is important when hunting with the .30 carbine. However you may want to consider using RN/FN bullets as they are less likely to be deflected by sticks and limbs and stuff like that. The Speer 110gr hollow point Varminter is a good choice for rapid, positive expansion. Max loads of 2400, H110 OR W296 work well for hunting or just about anything else.

I'm just not too sure M1 Carbine's the right gun for heavy brush. Not really enough carry power for that bullet.

Nothing short of a .50BMG is good IF it hits brush. I hunt deer in heavy cover with a .223 Rem, but I make dang sure the bullet's path is clear! Be precise- don't risk wounding the animal!

I think imarangemaster has some experience hunting deer with a .30 Carbine- what's his take?

Good point, in fact it's not the best choice for hunting deer period, but it will work. I've hunted deer and hogs with the .30 carbine since 1986 and have never lost an animal and I really was'nt all that picky about where i put the bullet or at what angle so long as it went into the vitals. All shots were full pen. with exit wounds about an inch in dia. so I did'nt get to recover any slugs to evaluate. Another thing to consider it whether or not your state has a 1000 lb minimum muzzle energy law in effect on rifles for big game, if so the little .30 won't make it.

Just out of curiousity, what's wrong with expanding type round nose bullets? Pointy noses don't expand any better and it's a short range round regardless. Improved aerodynamics of the pointy bullets won't add squat to this round's effective range- ~100yds MAX!

BTW, I've HUNTED with a .30 Carbine, just haven't pulled the trigger. Had deer in the sights- but didn't feel it was a good shoot.

The M1 carbine is legal here but I think FMJ is not.
I am in a pocket of heavy brush, I simply can't swing My scoped Weatherby in there.
The deer are usually not running so I can place good shots. They are also not always in the brush, I am in brush near the edge of a field.

Any 110 gr. round nose soft point will do fine for your brush shooting. A 110 spire point will not load properly in the 30 carbine case as it's just too long. If you don't reload then you can get Federal or Remington RNSP or the HPSP Winchester factory rounds. Any of these will do the job. I don't know of any state where FMJ is legal to use hunting.
