Prices are up??

Phoenix gun show today. A few Enfields. $500 for a set of consecutively numbered BSA #4s. Didn't have $500 ... Oh well.

One guy had a #4 Mk2 Maltby in that beautiful golden blond wood. It was marked $1350 !!!!! The seller said 'It's a private sale, I told the guy that we need to lower the price to sell it'.

I said 'Yeah, about $1000'. He said he'd come down to $1300 and challenged me to find another that nice, that cheap'. I said that I have one just like it that I bought a couple years ago for $175.' He scowled and walked away.

$1300 ?? Did I miss something in the last few months?

$1350 for a Mk2 Maltby.........., you should have snapped his hands off at that price. Maltby Mk2's are indeed rare............ Or was it a Fazakerley?

I suppose I need to pull mine out and see what it is again. The tag on the one at the show said 'Maltby Manufacturer'. I assumed 'Mk2'. I didn't actually pick it up.

I saw that one while helping a friend set up on Friday. I think a Faz as the s.n. started with 'PF'. Maybe not long out of the wrap, but silly price. Cheers, Don

I don't know what the reason is, But all British and Commonwealth Items are going through the roof. 1-2 years ago, Enfield Rifles and revolvers were in the "Can't Give It Away" category around where I live. Now it's a feeding Frenzy and I can't seem to keep enough ammo and gear in stock for them. Either folks are just jumping on the Bandwagon. or they are stocking up for something...Makes one wonder

The auction sites have much to do with it. Once someone pays an extreme price for something, the market seems to be adjusted in that direction. It makes prices for the consumer go up and prices for legitimate dealers who buy to resell to the consumer go up. I can't buy much of anything anymore to turn over for these reasons. Everyone is in the firearms business now thanks to the auction sites. I'm slowly watching my supply of rifles be depleted and I doubt if they can be replaced with rifles that are as nice at the same prices as I'm selling them for retail. Here's some more food for thought. With the decline in the value of the U.S. dollar, it isn't cost effective to import nice rifles anymore because they bring more money in their countries of origin than they do here.

Good Point. May also have to do with important dates of WW2 Milestones happening at present. I have had a boon lately. Sellers are bringing Grandpas Rifles in to sell. Seems the down economy makes for some great finds, as folks are selling things they normally wouldn't....

I have been looking at Enfields off and on for years. Back when they could be had for $50.00- $75.00 I would look and say to my self that I would have to get one but I don't have the money right now and my wife would skin me alive if I bring home another gun.
Well now it is many years later. I have a different wife who is much more receptive to the idea of owning firearms and a bit more money to spend so I started looking.
At first I was slightly shocked at the prices I was seeing but then I thought about how much everything else has gone up. Looking at it in comparison I don't really think that Enfields cost all that much more. Prices on parts however has taken a decided jump just in the short time I have been paying attention. I hope that is just a short term thing but it probably isn't.
