    A Polish Mauser...of sorts

I acquired this about a week ago. It's a Polish coversion of a Mosin Nagant rifle to 8mm Mauser and equipped with a Germanicon style bayonet lug. The conversions were carried out from 1923-26 with about 70k made. Here are some pics.

Was this a Germanicon WWI capture? I know the Germans captured piles of Russianicon equipment. The war started off with a massive defeat at Tannenberg and it was downhill from there. Funny fact of WWI, the Kaiser actually talked the Czar into staying out of WWI, but the Frenchicon forced the Czar to declare war.

Well, there **was** that treaty. Read all about it in Tuchman's "Guns of August." Read it and weep.

Thanks for the comments fellas. Glad to see what Dennis at Empire was able to sell one for since I bought this one for less than a tenth the price he realized. As to how the Poles came by the Mosin well there are several possibilities. The Polish state had disappeared in the 18th century its territory divvied up by the Russians, Prussians & Austrians. The Mosin might have been left behind /lost by the Imperial Russianicon garrisons retreating from the Kaiser's army or it might have been captured from the Soviets during the Polish-Soviet War of 1919-21.
