    MkVII target ammunition

I picked up a box of DA 1944 MkVII .303 a couple of weeks back and was told it was DCRA target ammunition. Standard looking round but with a green painted stripe around the cases. Whats' the dope on this stuff and is it scarce or ???? Thanks, Liam

Yes, it is match ammunition. The DCRA ammo was identified by a different sequence of coloured rings around the case each year. They can be green, purple or black and up to four rings IIRC. I don't have a list showing which marking equates to which year but the date in the headstamp should be a good guide. Single items are not particularly rare, even here in the UKicon, so I imagine fairly easy to find in Canadaicon.

    Regards

There was also the batch made in 1950, which is not banded, but uses 1945 cases, nickel plated primers and a purple annulus. Very good stuff.
