    Longbranch steel buttplates

Are ALL Longbranch steel buttplates the same dimensions or did they vary from bantam-normal-long ? The reason I ask is because I have 2 LB buttstocks.....one is 4.5", the other one is 4.75" ........ thats' measured from the bottom heal to the top of the butt-end.
Maybe I should also ask if there were any dimensional changes between the Longbranch and Canadianicon Arsenal issue ....... my LB is a 1950 CA and I'm trying to find a minty buttplate for it........thanks

That's a good question Dieppe........ The butt plates were all the same size even on the L, M. or S butts. But the butts differed everso slightly in width and depth. They also differed after they'd been repaired, patched or just made good in the Armourers shops. So our instructions were that the edge of the butt plate was to be inside the silhouette of the rear of the butt, fit up against it perfectly with an equidistant distance of about 3/16" or so between it and the edge of the butt. So we'd file the edge of the butt plate to suit and make good. The steel ones went through the phosphate tank and came out as new, undersize but correctly fitting the butt it was fitted to

I have seen new old stock steel buttplates on ebay before. No idea if they are LB or not but worth a sniff around.

not the ones I usually see but have a look at:

    Steel LB butt plates

I bought one of E-Bay a couple of months ago. New, greased, and paper wrapped. About $15.
