.308 Portugal ammo OK?

Samco has this ammo for sale that they say is non corrosive and berdan primed. Any experience with it? Is this ammo good to shoot? I don't reload so the berdan primed doesn't bother me. THANKS

It's personal opinion on my part, but if the bullet itself attracts a magnet, I wouldn't want to fire that through my rifle. You do run across steel-jacketed surplus ammo fairly commonly and I feel that it exposes the barrel to excessive wear. Granted, I do keep a little bit around for my 91/30s, but I won't shoot it unless I have to (read that as civilization has collapsed and it's survival time).

If the head stamp is FNM it's the Portugese ammo I've dealt with and it's great. Accurate and clean enough for no problems. The thing is, I remember it being boxer primed.

If Portuguese, it's great shooting ammo, non-corrosive Berdan. Steel jackets are a non-issue, they are mild steel and coated with GM. Unless you are firing many thousands of rounds through an MG it is not a problem at all. Shoot happily.

The HXP ammo that CMP sells has magnetic bullets, too. I read that some steel is added to the lead, to stabilize the bullets--whatever that means. It is a little cheaper, and you could always sell the empties to people who do reload.

Careful, SAMCO also warns that the ammo has some corrosion. That could relate to how it was stored. Given that potential issue, his price is a little high for me.
