    11-149 garand Picture of the Day - To All who have sacraficed to Keep America Strong

    Fdr- Memorial Day At Arlington
    Date taken: November 1942
    Photographer: Myron Davis

    Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.

    Dear Madam,

    I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

    A. Lincoln

    He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose
    There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

    ' Father, may You watch over Your children whom serve and who have served this great country. May You comfort those who have lost and those who are lost. May You bring our men and women back to us safely when their tour is done. Father , we ask that You wrap Your arms around those whose time has passed and keep them safe , give them peace, and bring them into Your kingdom ,so that, we shall see them again when it is our time. Blessed be Your name.

    The Lord is my shepherd;
    I shall not want.
    He makes me to lie down in
    green pastures;
    He leads me beside the still
    waters.
    He restores my soul;
    He leads me in the paths of
    righteousness
    For His name's sake.

    Yea, though I walk through
    the valley of the shadow
    of death,
    I will fear no evil;
    For you are with me;
    Your rod and Your staff, they
    comfort me.

    You prepare a table before
    me in the presence of my
    enemies;
    You anoint my head with oil;
    My cup runs over.
    Surely goodness and mercy
    shall follow me
    All the days of my life;
    And I will dwell in the house
    of the Lord
    Forever.

    Amen.

    Unfortunately, for many it has degenerated into an excuse to have the first picnic of the summer.

    I've stood on the sacred ground of Bunker Hill, Lexington, and Gettysburg. Sometime I hope to see Normandy.

    A very dear friend of mine was able to go to Normandy about 2 years ago. He visited the museum and cemetery there. He said it was sobering and that he cried all the way through the afternoon. Our fallen soldiers, who died for our freedom...............................it's a
    debt we can never repay. We owe them at least our gratitude and reverance on this most solemn day. God bless them and hold them in your warm and loving hand

    I have visited many of the WWI and WWII sites in France and Belgiumicon as well as some of the Civil War sites like Gettysburg and they all have a very special feel to them. You can't help but be moved visiting these sacred grounds.

    I pray that we may never have to create anymore.
