If you ever push the mag release in the dark thinking that it was the safety, you'll know why it was changed.

Apparently that's exactly the sort of thing that happened too.

Is it hard to put the push buttons into a carbine with a switch selector? After dark I use a mod 37 shotgun with a hastings barrel for nighttime disscussions....Charlie

Nothing. They should have left them just like this. The troops on the ground however would have expressed their opinions no doubt !. A 5 Digit. Mike.Attachment 23595Attachment 23594

    Mike,

Not just a push safety, but a checkered one at that, nice.

I agree with Mike. I like the look alot better then the rotary. I have never had an issue here at home with a push safety. Having said that, the one I carried in Viet Nam had a rotary safety. It's easy to say now that it would not have been an issue in a heated situation. But being mine was rotary then I can't say it would have been or not.

    Push Safety

I've dropped a few mags over the years because of the push safety. But I still like them the best and have them on most of my carbines. I fact I always have problems remembering what is on and what is off with the late safety. Bill

On a rotary safety I have, it has that funny looking S post war marking on both sides. One side is overstamped with a "N". Safe, not safe? Of course still wouldn't be helpful at night.
