A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. That's one of the pistols I've always wanted. You can find the small ones but not so much the big one.

An over simplification of what actually took place, with blame for the ammunition causing the Savage to fail. First, Colt did not manufacture the ammunition as it was supplied by Union Metallic Cartridge Co., and the 230 grain cartridge was developed in 1906 and chosen over the Model 1905 cartridge with the 200 grain bullet. Initial pistols submitted by Savage were tested by Ordnance, and problems plagued the Savage all the way through the tests and field trials. The Savage pistol had been redesigned repeatedly through out the test and trials, and the last test was on March 15, 1911 that sealed the Savage's fate as it was still plagued with problems, and the Colt/Browning design was chosen.
