I back my sizing die out a few turns, and that sizes the brass just enough to work in both of my Snider's. My cases have been reloaded dozens of times, and I have not taken any of them out of service yet. The Rapine trash can bullet is very accurate in every Snider we've tried it in. The hollow base allows it to fit many rifles. The Lee Miné was very disappointing. I have found better accuracy with FG than with FFG. 72gr works great, and doubles as a flame thrower in my carbine! The FG also gives a gentler push on recoil.

Good luck with the Jamison brass. I bought some in .303 Savage and most split lenghtwise in the center of the case. It was just a light load with cast bullets.

Hi folks, yes there is an Orleans that was once a town east of Ottawa but now it is a 'berb of Ottawa. I had nothing to do with that change as it came about when I was overseas with the RCAF. Anyway, thanks for all your input on the Snider brass it is very helpful. By the way Copilot001, anyone around there have a set of 577 dies for sale.
    Thanks again and good shooting.

    Hi all,

I'm from north of Kingston, Ontario and am in the beginning stages of making some rounds for my Snider MkII 1862. I'm thinking of getting some brass and doing my own, however, to save some cash and energy, I have seen some on Youtube and other posts use 24 gauge plastic and load in .590 or .600 musket with 70-85 gr FFG. In terms of accuracy around 50 yards +/-, do you think this would make much of a difference?

    Thanks,

    Yes, but...

Yes, it will work. Some people have reported quite satisfactory results (go to britishmilitariaforums.yuku.com and look around). Whether or not you consider the results to be satisfactory depends on the kind of accuracy you are looking for.
