Opinions on a 1941 Johnson Rifle

Your rear cross pin seems to be missing it's tab, Beginner. Makes disassembly a bit more difficult, yes? If you were to shoot it a great deal, it might want to walk out of position, as the tab rotates into and is restrained by a small slot in the receiver.

May be able to get one here, if they ship overseas, which I don't think they do on orders over US$100, maybe not at all:

I also wish you the best in your marrage. I've been there 49 years with the same wife. If it hadn't been for her I would probably not made it past 60. And I am certain you will enjoy the Johnson. I have one of the early ones (no letter prefix) that I have shot a bunch of 30-06 through. Most of the rounds have been hand loads but a many have been LC M2 ball. I did replace the original barrel since it was fairly shot out but had the Dutch acceptance mark so it had to be saved and the wood which was so dry it frequently split when fired was also replaced. It had some previous owner name spelled out on the batt stock with the point of a 30-06. My latest efforts have been to get a 7mm barrel I bought recently where it will shoot a reasonable group. At this time using some Norma hunting ammo it could be beaten by a 12 guage.

Thank you for your kind words. We are still happily married, after 1.5 months She's an amazing woman, and she doesn't mind my collecting hobby. Still haven't shot her (the rifle, heh ) but I am looking forward to taking the rifle to the range. No expectations regarding the accuracy, the bore is pretty bad...

Sorry, resurrecting a very old thread but I finally got around to checking the bolt hold open issue. And the problem is quite clear: the bolt does not travel back far enough. The buffer runs out of space before the hold open is engaged. How is this even possible?
And I am 100% sure this is the issue; when I take the "link" (=the long rod that travels inside the buffer tube) out of the plunger-cup and retract bolt all the way back the bolt hold open works fine without problems. I even measured the missing distance that the bolt should have to move for the catch to engage and it is around 4 mm which is around 5/32" I suppose.

Is there a simple way of taking the buffer tube out and having a look if there is something wrong with it? How does the buffer tube come out?

I am stumped by this, and seems like a weird issue. Thanks!

He has had some eye health problems , so he is running behind , but if you register and leave a post or PM for him he'll contact you through his local library's computer ( he's had power / computer problems too. ) .

Thank you for the advice, but alas I am in Scandinavia and hence can not get any parts from the US unfortunately. Ordering parts from overseas is a PITA, and not even worth the hassle. But I will post my question there!

Good choice Beginner! If I should ever stumble across an M41 for 2K € I would hit it like a ....well I would buy it straight away!!!! Don't forget to post more pics!!!!!
