Agreed, Mark. I was watching a documentary on the Germanicon Junkers JU-88 bomber today. They showed a pair of armorers installing MG34 machine guns into the aircraft, a process that required a man outside and a man inside the aircraft. During the installation, the man outside the aircraft had to stand on a latter and pull the through a flexible sleeve with the barrel aimed at his face. Clearly, in wartime, life is cheaper.

Yes, but remember the guns are cleared and empty for installing. If I helped install the guns on my armoured vehicle when I commanded one, it would be quite possible to be downrange of my own guns. But I think you know these things. Most of you US guys did service at one time or another.

I saw that show too, Bob and thought the same thing. As the guy outside is pulling the MG into the ball swivel the guy inside is attaching a large loaded magazine.
