    Soliciting opinions on this IBM

Since it's from our somewhat suspect friends in Alabama, just wanted a few opinions on it.

Barrel has been refinished and flip sight is fake. The bolt also appears to have been refinished as well. It would be interesting to see the weld scars on the barrel band. Many humped up fakes from this seller. Would avoid him like the plague.

I agree with dbarn completly on all counts.

Plus he rough sanded the snot out of the right side of the stock. Possibly to remove a 'FAT' stamp or something and then it looks like he added the CC in front of the sanded area. With this seller everything is questionable.

Stay away from that carbine is my advise. There is too much that is not right with it. And, and a great big "and", the seller!

    You look at photo 23

the tip of the stock near the barrel band. It looks like an old Army stock with all the character you'd expect. Then the rest of the stock is sanded rough to look new. Maybe it's me, but I think people should be horse whipped for this kind of stuff....and then put in prison. Like looking under the fender of a classic car and seeing lumps of bondo. The barrel is shot out too. I can see these guys saying " How can we make a silk purse out of this sow's ear?"

I see what you mean Dave. It looks like he also hit that area with a belt sander cross grain to get rid of something distracting. Didn't even try to smooth it out and waste his energy sanding by hand.

Surprised he didn't belt sand the evidence of where a type III barrel band once was before he installed this newly minted barrel band. Probably would have taken too much energy to remove the BB spring.

I agree with Topaz 100%. People are buying this bogus stuff like there's no tomorrow, so guys like him and George are still selling their crap easily and they don't even try to cover up what should seem the obvious.

Notice he never claims anything is original, but it is certainly implied. At least he never says "I don't know much about these guns, but.."

I bought quite a lot of parts from them back in '06 when they were Al-Sam-Bob. The stuff was legit back then. Don't recall them selling complete carbines at that time though.

2006 is about the time I joined the old Culvericon forum. If my memory serves me right, back then "humpers" were the exception rather than the rule. Now it seems like humpers are the rule rather than the exception. Even some good people have gone to "the dark side of the force" for profit. I have been half expecting humping to rear its ugly head in the retro AR15 community with vintage parts getting premium prices. Fortunately, it is a smaller field and the parts are difficult to fake! Not too many people making fake green painted brown fiberglass Model 601 stocks!
