Springfield Armory 1903 Serial # 1401913

I bought this rifle and I'm now trying to figure out what I've got. Its marked Springfield Armory 1903 Serial number 1401913. It has a lyman site on the front and rear. Has a 308 Douglas Barrel. No other markings. Looks like a target rifle to me. Can anyone give me in insight as to what I have and what it might be worth?

i think that serial number puts your 1903 in 1931 as the year of manufacture. should be 30.06. sounds like it was bubba'd.

Could be a NM that somebody re-worked. I wouldn't say it was Bubba'd until we see photos of the work. If you want further info and a rough value, ya gotta post photos. What did you pay?

Looks like a very nice target rifle. I would have put a .30-'06 barrel on it, but the caliber works very well.

I would not call this a "Bubba'ed" '03. It is typical of the many "made-up" target rifles/sporters from the 1950s or 1960s. Whomever did it did a very nice job. While admitting that sporterized versions of the '03 aren't my speciality, I think you paid a fair price for this one. Perhaps Michael Petrov could give his opinion.

Are there any markings to indicate who did the work stamped on the rifle or stock?

Thanks very much for the info. I have the name of the person that traded this in to the gun shop that sold it to me. I plan on contacting him to see if he has any information. The 308 caliber actually attracted me to the rifle. Did they make any of these in a 308 or does the fact that it has a 308 Douglas barrel mean that it has been altered?

The barrel was added years later, the original chambering was in 30.06 you have a very nice rifle that someone put alot of love into hope it shoots well.
