    The Springfield 1903 Rifles

By Lt. Col. William S. Brophy

I finally got a copy of this book the other day. I've wanted one since examining a copy at a store last winter. The price kept me away from the purchase at that time.

Used copy about half retail on ebay, hard to get there too without paying the big bucks.

I'm not a collector of these specifically but this book is just full of all kinds of interesting information on just about everything and every type object or accessory that went with these.

616 pages of 1903 information, lots of photos, cutaways and drawings. Follows the history of the rifles along with the hardware.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I tripped over a copy at a friends shop when he called to say he had some books for me to see. It was one of about twenty books I picked and they were mostly big name. Brophy's book is one you can open for a minute and then realize you've been reading for an hour.
    Regards, Jim
