At Rorke's Drift, eleven Victoria Crosses were awarded. Seven to the 2nd Battalion, 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot, one to the Army Medical Department, one to the Royal Engineers, one to the Commissariat and Transport Department and one to the Natal Native Contingent.

This action occurred from Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 January, 1879, when some 150 soldiers defended a supply station against some 4000 Zulus, aided by the Martini-Henry rifle 'with some guts behind it'.

I seriously doubt any modern film maker could do better than this.

Its said that when the Harlech defenders were finally overcome the King ordered they be hanged as rebels. His own commander replied that if he wanted men that brave to be hanged he must do it himself and hang him right next to them.

The English lyrics for the film were credited to Cy Endfield and Ivor Emmanuel. Some years afterwards Endfield contacted Emmanuel and asked him to sign a paper saying Endfield had written the lyrics "and like a fool I said yes, never thinking there might be a bit of money in it".
The words also bear a suspiciously strong resemblance to 'Soldier, Rouse Thee, War Is Raging', a Salvation Army hymn attributed to George Scott Railfield, also set to Men of Harlech

I recently picked up a British released copy of ZULU on Blu-ray and the picture quality is awsome. Zulu is not region specific so it will play on North American DVD players.

I have seen the movie at least three times and this particular scene so many times I have lost count. It is something else. I also have Men of Harlech on my IPOD twice by different groups.
