    Correct base for 03A4 clone

I'm planning a clone 03A4 for my sons to use in the CMPicon vintage sniper match. I've got a sportered SC 03A3 with a great bore, that has a Lyman 48 sight on it, so the receiver has already been modified past the point of "re-milling".

I just glommed a Redfield Jr scope mount that indicates that it is correct for an A3 or A4

I've heard that some of the newer Redfield bases are made in China and may not fit properly.

    Questions..

Does the Redfield base look like it will work? (I'm still waiting for it to ship, so all I have is the auction pic)

Has anyone heard whether the CMP is going to allow A4 clones based on the SC receiver? I do not see why they wouldn't, but do not know how persnickety they intend to be.

    Ahh crap!!!

I just looked at the rear bridge...the dovetail for the rear sight has been ground off. Guess that Redfield sight base may not work afterall.

Calfed, from the packaging I believe your base is old enough stock to be US manufacture. i wouldn't give up on the receiver. A good smith should be able to rebuild the dove tail with weld or a silver soldered plate.

Let us know how you make out.

    Regards,
    Jim

Yes, that is an old base, not new Chinese junk. I wouldn't fret the ground bridge. Like Jim said, make a filler and attach it to the bridge then drill through it and the bridge. You may need a longer screw than supplied, and fit it to go all the way through the bridge, but be flush with the inside of the bridge.

    Thanks, guys

If they are allowing 1903 models to be converted to "A4" configuration and used in the vintage sniper match, I might use a butt-ugly sportered Remington 03 that I have.

It also has been d&t'd for a Redfield sight and is past being "re-milled". Might also be easier to d&t for the scope mount. The guy that I got the Redfield JR 03A3 scope base from also has a Redfield Jr base for a 1903 in similar packaging.
