Hey, that was a good movie - thanks for posting. I always wanted a MAS 49, just never got around to it. I might have to get that started again after seeing the MAS 36 in action. And I didn't know about the Carbine and the FFL in Indo-China.

The Frenchicon like the M1icon Carbine. THey even made a 30 carbine version of the STG-44. If I remember correctly it was like a cross between an STG 44 and a CETME. I tripped across it doing research on the CETME a few years ago.

Firstflabn: All your observations I agree with

The number one thing that kills people in gunfights is loss of blood. Unless you hit brain, heart or thorax, you will probably survive the initial hit. If you hit a major pipe, you bleed out and die quickly. That is the long and the short of the tune. Bullfighters and shark attack victims always die from a ruptured blood vessel in the leg. That is a big pipe in the upper leg. Nick that with a bullet of any caliber and you are done. That same big pipe runs down the center of the body and the main big pipes from the lungs are open for damage as well. That's how a shoulder wound can be fatal. My late buddy Ray Barrios was in the 50th Inf in Vietnam. They had a stray bullet from an ARVN unit zip into a group of guys. It struck one poor fellow in the side of his helmet, penetrated the helmet and into his skull. Ray said the guy was standing there asking people if it looked bad letting them check it out. Perfectly fine. They finally got him to lay down and he died right here. Bullet wounds are not predictable.

I went to a shooting were a suspect was shot in the head, and was missing about a piece of skull and brain the size of a large orange. He ran about a mile before he knew he was dead. When I went to the autopsy, the pathologist assured me he died instantly... Another homicide I responded to, the victim did not die for 3 days, even though a third of his brain was gone from a contact wound from a 357 magnum...
