Help with info for a Weaver 330-M8

Is this scope correct for a 1903A4 and what is the value of the scope?

    1. No. Scopes originally used on the A4 had click adjustments on the windage and elevation knobs. The scope in the pictures has the screw or "silent" style adjustments.

In his book "The '03 Springfield Era" (2003) Clark Campbell reported that "commercial scopes either the 330C with cross wire reticle or the 330 Scope - M.8 with tapered post" were furnished for use on early A4 production. The delivery of telescopic sights was the critical path item throughout A4 production. In the early months Remington deliveries were badly behind schedule due to the inability of the Ordnance Department to obtain telescopic sights from either of the two contractors it had approved.

Its unclear just what the "M.8" designation was supposed to signify but Weaver used the letter "M" in several other models of scopes dating to the same period.
The one thing that is virtually certain is that it is not a scope built to a military specification or officially adopted. The 330 Scope -M.8 was essentially an 'or equivalent' to the 330C.

All this being said if you are interested in using it on a rifle for CMPicon Vintage Sniper competition the scope in question may well be acceptable as they have some flexibility in their rules.

    2. As to value I would guess $200.~ The Vintage Sniper Matches have increased the demand for scopes that resemble the 330C/m73B1.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Jim
