    Maybe I was hopeful,...

    OK, well it is awful hard to get a feel just from pics but my feel from this one was that we had a good candidate here - lots of early stuff that usually got swapped out like short fork follower rods, combine it with an early oprod catch and you start to see something that potentially hasn't been all that messed with, at least this far in (even though obviously the handguard has seen some abuse - not sure what was going on there but it may indicate an attempt by Bubba (sorry Buba) to have tightened things up ...);

    Early single slot lock screws are also a good sign that the gas system is possibly original. Downside here is that they usually match the rest of the cyliinder and lock and look much more like a set - these don't. While shooter tended to like them, an original in-the-white one is a tougher cookie to find - and specifically didn't match the rest of the assemblies. But were this to have been gone over by a shooter I would guess he might have chosen one with finish or at least refinished the naked one - another good sign.

    Some pretty good stuff though like a nice oprod. Detractors that you have to see to judge; rear sight cover looks rusty, trigger group looks reparked. Jury is out on the stock and stock metal, which sight knobs are there, and really ... the details ...

    I might be a little hopeful but if the barrel is a good one and the stock is an original to the gun it is a pretty nice package that may have just had a fwe upgrades and a bit of a rough life up to now. How's that.
