How much do you SHOOT your Lee Enfield

As a newcomer to this stuff, I find it a bit frustrating to spend a whole day, quite a few quid and several hours of travel to get only 20 or possibly 30 shots down the range. I had been hoping that there would be more opportunity to use several rifles during a day out and really get to grips with them but this simply is not happening. On gallery range days it is quite a different matter where the action is almost continuous.
While it is great to meet up with and chat to fellow enthusiasts, most of whom have been doing it for donkey's years, it would be good to get in more shooting, as I desperately need the practice.

How many rounds do the shooters amongst you get through in an average days shooting and how many rifles would you use. Do you intentionally not shoot much because of the wear and tear on the rifles or is this just the way it is with those who have been shooting for years?.
I have posted this in the Lee Enfield forum because apart from gallery rifle, I only have Enfields to shoot as do many other club members.

I try and shoot my trusty old military bolt action rifles (2 Lee-Enfield No.4 MK.1s, 1 Mosin Nagant 91/30 and an M44) once a month. The ammo for the MN is pretty cheap, and I reload for the Lee-Enfields. On an average trip to the range, I will use up 100 to 150 rounds (no point going for less than 40 rounds as I have quite a drive to the range).

Just tooling up right now to shoot them.
I noticed here in the States, that ammo was $15.00- $25.00 per box, for .303Brit.

All my enfields (I have 4) are shooters.
I only live about 25 mins from my local range so travel isn't an issue for me.
I usually take 2 with me (swap and change which 2) and put probably only about 20 through each. I shoot for fun, so I'm not really at the range to hone my skills. This might change if my latest additions turns out to be a good range rifle.

I'm not worried about wear and tear, mine are all in very good nick and these things were made for shooting!

Weather permitting, I try to get to the range about once a week. I usually take the Enfield (#1 MK3* ) and 2 other rifles. I take 50 rounds of .303 and about the same for the others ( 100 if I take the AR-15. I'm happy to report that I am getting pretty good with the Enfield. Also it is my favorite.

How much do you SHOOT your Lee Enfield

It has probably been 5 or 6 years since I shot one of my .303s. Working on some more reloads, and hope to be somewhat methodical in identifying and documenting the best load for the rifles this time around. I shot them both quite a bit in the 1990's, and had developed some nice loads for the No 4.

I did actually shoot the Ishapore a couple years back (7.62) Handloads improved the experience greatly.

As a newcomer myself, I usually only have been able to get about 20 rounds off as well. Part of the reason is that the range I shoot at has a 1 hour time limit. Oh sure, I could shoot 100 rounds easy in an hours time but why waste that kind of ammo considering how expensive it is. I try to be more of a deliberate shooter. I have a few Enfields, but only take one at a time to the range.

It really depends on the individual rifle. If it's zeroed and there's no upcoming match, then maybe 10-20 rounds. If it's a work in progress, then probably 40 rounds or so, unless it's troublesome. If it's from standing position, at least ten rounds, maybe 30. The old CQB No.4 and Indian 2a1 would often get 100-150 rounds per day for two or three days a week, but that was a few years back when ammo was MUCH cheaper.

But I also will bring two to four rifles to the range at least once a week, so the total round count is much higher. (Pistol shooting round counts are WAY down, as the price per round is close to rifle ammo, and I'd rather devote the resources to rifles right now.)

I shoot once a week, 40 rounds, at 100, 200 and 300 meters. I have to travel only 1hour to go to the range. The dark side of the things is that : we could only shoot sitting and rest supported. Here in Italyicon people likes to shoot scope rifles more than vintage rifle...

I guess the problem for lots of people in the UKicon, is not living close enough to Bisley. Right or wrong, the major historic clubs: HBSA, LERA, MLAGB, etc. tend to gravitate there. I shoot full-bore rifle at least once a month (I'll be at Bisley tomorrow) plus we are lucky enough to have a small-bore range in our village. Additionally, I shoot Section 7 at Bisley as well. During the summer, I can shoot much more than I need/want.

So I reckon that the nub of it is that, in the UK, geography dictates how much one shoots.
