Dick Deane
After a valiant fight, GCA Founder Daniel Richard Deane succumbed to cancer on Monday. His family was with him and he didn't suffer. Rest in peace, my friend, and thank you.
His family plans a memorial service on Monday, September 26th at 5:00 PM at the First Christian Church in Richmond, KY. where he was an Elder from 1978 to 2006. A celebration of his life will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

I remember talking to Dick sometime around 1985 and he said - you know if we could get 20 guys to each put up $25, I could start a newsletter on the M1

Me too, Robert, and you are one of the Founding Members. My first reaction was, "You mean tell everybody our secrets?? No way!" Dick talked us all into it, and I'm sure glad he did.

I am sorry to hear about his loss. He was a wonderful guy.
When I decided to join after the first issue of The Newsletter he called me and made a positivie comment on my knowledge. That is something I will never forget.

I am very, very saddened by the loss of Dick.
I was fortunate to have spoken with Dick on the phone in May. He told me of his illness and he was to have nine weeks of chemotherapy.
After his treatment he wished to make one last trip to SA to clean his bust of John Garand. I do not know if he made it. In the last few months I had intended to call him again and maybe make arrangements to go to SA with him or at least to go see him in Richmond, KY. I will always truly regret that I have missed this opportunity.
Dick took a genuine interest in me and shared freely of his time and his knowledge. I am very lucky to have had him in my life and it hurts deeply to know that he is gone.
