    Sighting options for 1903 Springfield

Hell everyone. I'm a long time lurker and first time poster. I recently bought a very nice 1903 but hate the rear sight. I'm wondering if there are any after market sights available for this gun that would require none or very little gunsmithing and permanent altering of the rifle. I guess worst case scenario I could use commercial 220 gr. bullets so that the thing would shoot level at 100-200 yds instead of shooting 1' high at 100 with 150 gr loads.

    Thanks!

Try the USMC sights from Bill Bentz.

Motown7.62, why don't you just flip the rear sight and use that for your 100 yard sighting in? No need for another rear sight to get the rifle to sight in to point of aim. If you can't see the sights cuz they're too fine, the USMC sight set up is a good alternative as has been previously noted by crazycossack.

I was hoping that I could find a set of sights that would allow a 100-200 yd zero without having to flip up the rear sight.

You want a taller front sight. You can see if a replacement is taller than your current sight Front Sight
or you can use it as a pattern to make a taller sight from sheet metal. If all you want to do is lower the point of impact that is easier than replacing the rear sight. Make it tall and then file it down as necessary to zero the sight.

I'm not aware of any currently produced sights that meet your requirements (little to no smithing). Lacking that, I concur with the suggestions above for a taller front sight. I've dabbed on some JB Weld, allowed it to cure, then touch it up with a file for width. At the range, start filing it down until you find your zero......or just make a new one. Good luck.
