A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Quick way to find out - see if the M5 bayonet stud fits into the single slot. If the M5 fits there is an excellent chance it is fake

Good point. I never thought of that, but I just think it looks TOO good. I have a loose Winchester here and the Springfield that's in my rifle and they are both...showing wear shall we say?

I bought a pack of 5 , years ago , that are susposed to be the real deal. They were packed in very old , dried cosmolineicon or grease and wrapped in that old funky corn-husk type paper. They are and look to be new. All five have the inner base polished up. Yours could be a refinished original , a different mfg. , or a fake. I hear the fakes will allow a rifle grenade launcher stud to go in them whereas the originals never would. My examples pass that test easily , the hole is much too small. To help check , the hammer spring guide easily fits , the front sight screw barly does go in them.

Only one type of fake has the large hole that allows the grenade launcher to fit. There are other fakes out there that have the same size hole as the originals.
