New Norinco M14

I just had to share this new purchase. I know my southern neighbours can't get these any more at these prices, but all the other stuff you have easy access to makes up for it.

One of our importers had a combo deal on last week. $799 for a brand-new 18.5" barreled rifle and 1000 rounds of Norinco steel-cased 7.62 NATO, shipping included. Given that they list the rifle for $449 and the ammo for $600, it was too good to pass up. In fact, I probably should have bought two.

Disregard the magazine. It's an AIA 10 round bolt gun mag and the only way I can legally get more than 5 rounds in a semi-auto centerfire. The rifle came with two 20 round mags pinned to 5, a full M14-type cleaning kit, and a manual that was actually readable and pretty decent.

What's up with the front sight? Trim to zero, or are they doing some compensation for the shorter barrel?

It's gotta be compensation for the short barrel. We'll see how well it's regulated when I shoot it. Hopefully that will be tomorrow.

Years ago I bought two of them. We can use 20 round mags here.

I'm in Canada. Maybe your BATFE can run some over the Canada/US border for your enjoyment.

Yes, Norinco is Chinese. No, they can't be imported into the US. IIRC, that's thanks to Clinton.

I wish we could get these kind of deals here in the states. I just bought a Norinco M14 at a gun shop last week, it was just the rifle it self and no accessories. I paid $742.00 dollars for it.

The bonus of the US is that if it's a full auto state, you can licence yourself and own an M14. Here, it's not possible. Those that did own them from time to time know they're a rifleman's rifle. And like some people I know, they should be shot...

I had it out at the range yesterday and I'm very pleased. The front sight is needlessly tall, though. I had to crank the elevation up to 400 to get POA/POI on at 50m. Seems decently accurate and functioned flawlessly with the Norinco 7.62 NATO I got with the package. Can't complain for the money!!!

Maybe we could figure out a way to swap front sights.

This rifle has the rear sight bottomed out to zero at 100yds. That would be OK, except the comb is so high that it requires all sorts of contortions to use the iron sights at all. 8 or 20 clicks up would be a wonderful improvement, comfort-wise!
