Butt socket markings look a bit odd to me - very deeply stamped, and a bit too similar. Wonder if the rifle was matched to the scope & chest? Maybe nothing, but most of the '43 BSAs I've seen had shallower, mismatched stamping....

Yes, I was just wondering if it was mated up in service but post-WW2 on what had been one of the 'less scope' rifles. Speculation, but it might account for it.
