Question Need info about this Mauser

Just got this from a friend of mine. I only have the barrel, he parted the rest of the rifle out. Because he did not have the bolt for it. Up by the front sight it is marked (C.A.I. ST. ALB VT K98icon GERMAN 8MM) By the rear sight (6 41 Bo) (WaA 625 with bird wings) And by the bolt (72 89) (Mod. 98) Would like to find out where and when it was made and any other info. Thank you.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Question

Hello Lowkey3594 and welcome to the site ...

    Pics would help ....

However, let's do some guessing ...

A full list of German codes and most WaA's can be referenced in the following Milsurps Knowledge Libraryicon entry:

"Das Heereswaffenamt" (Detailed Listing of German WaA Markings and Codes)

WaA625 doesn't show in that list, so please check and make sure that it's not WaA655 or some other variation.

(6 41 Bo) This is the date of manufacture and maker for the barrel ie: 1941

(72 89) (Mod. 98) means it's a Model K98kicon rifle and the 7289 is most likely the serial number. Is there a letter in script (Fraktur) anywhere under or near the set of four numbers? Also, if the bolt matches the receiver, then you should see the same 4 numbers on the left side of the receiver and also on the barrel.

(C.A.I. ST. ALB VT K98 GERMAN 8MM) identifies the importer and has nothing to do with the original German markings.

    Hope this helps ..

    Regards,
    Badger

Thank you Badger for the info you gave me. I did try to upload pics. But it said the pics sizes were to big to upload, need to figure out how to fix them. It looks like there is a letter (r) by the serial number. And I look at the other one closer and it is WaA623.

How do I upload or post images on MILSURPS.COM?

If you don't have Microsoft's Windows XP add-on called Image Resizer (This FREE PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a right-click), then click on the link above and install it on your system.
