Sit around a VFW, American Legion Post or with a group of Marines at a MCL meeting and listen to all the stories of combat experiences. You will learn real fast to take the majority of the stories with a grain of salt. Some are true, alot half truths and alot pure plain old B.S. And this "ping" thing is of the latter, pure B.S.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I think I found a definitive opinion on the subject, found elsewhere:

"As a veteran of countless firefights and campaigns in the Medal of Honor series of video games, I can state the sound of the clip being ejected from the Garandicon never caused me to be wounded or killed. This includes battles across the European continent, through the Pacific island hopping campaigns and thousands of online death matches."

I read Crack/Thump also, never said anything about someone being a casualty by ping, provide Chapter and page please, you have not provided one iota of PROOF yet as pointed out by others, like it was said "Show me". No one is going to read all those books to either prove you right or wrong, it's your argument, you provide the details please.

I watch the Military Channel, in Top Ten Combat Rifles the one expert (forget his name, but I've seen him elsewhere) also talks about the deadly ping, he also has no proof. That's Canfield's whole point, you can't find any proof.

As for Bruce Canfield's experience I think it is explained rather well at the following link.

    Bruce N. Canfield - Author's Bio

Now please let this subject rest until you find not one, but how bout TEN confirmed references to back your current OPINION. I think that's a good number that we could then provide Mr. Canfield with sources to research and possibly retract his articles posted on this subject. Credibility starts with having to prove oneself.

Now I've just driven my Post count up by 3 on one thread, I need to be spanked!

Well, that was fun but we've pretty much got the bases covered. I think we'll put it to bed.
