Remington R1 Pistol

I am thinking about getting myself a Remington R1 1911 pistol. Has anyone had any experience with these? Good or bad? Anyone heard anything about them?

From what I've heard they stand up to the 1911 govt in every way. I've handled them and they seem very well made, well finished and solid. If I was looking for one, I'd probably get one of those.

That seems to be the common answer. Ill take that any day!!! Heard anything about the mags?

I wouldn't worry about the mags, they're done to Remington standard and will compare to all others. If they give up on you, just buy your favorites and carry on! Besides, I've got about 35 or so. I just change 'em up and go on. I wouldn't know which is which.

From what I've heard, the Ruger SR-1911 is supposed to be better, for a similar price. I know of at least 3 of the Remington's returned to them for repairs.

Out of all of them made three went back or you personally know 3 people that sent them back?

I know of 3 guys, who bought from 2 different local shops, who sent them back for issues, one had an ejector break, one a spring broke on it, one had FTE issues (I'm thinking ejector issues on that one too). But all said the service was prompt, and cured the issues, FWTW.

I have a 1911 from WW1 and 1911A1's from WW2 that I still shoot, though not regularly anymore.

These pistols are going to last and be handed down to children and then grand children.

I think your question goes right along with the old saying "You get what you pay for"

I want reliability when I need it. Accuracy as much as my eyes can give me. Feel and features that please me. And a damn fine looking pistol. It will last past my lifetime, so why not get what you really want the first time. When I wanted one other then for my military collection I stupidly started at the low end $800-$900. Troubles with FTF, FTE, fair accuracy (4"-5") broken parts. So I moved up to the $1200-$1500 not as bad but simialr issues. Eight years ago I took the plunge into semi custom and bought an Ed Brown Classic Custom. A lot more money, but oh am I pleased. First off it is a good looker. It feels good in the hand. You don't feel the slide slamming back and forth, it is one smooth motion. It is under 1 1/2" at 25 yards. And has been 100% reliable from the start. This year I bought a Wilson. Same thing. There is no way I can improve upon these two pistols.

More money, sure it is. But I feel I wasted my money starting with lessor quality, trading or selling them to keep moving up until I found some superb guns. Either would be the last 1911 you would need to buy.

I would suggest at least giving it some consideration. Go to the LGS and hold one. Watch out, you will want to fondle it too.

I looked at the R1. I bought a Colt 1911A1 70 Series Repro Blued O1970A1CS as my shooter.
