    Auction SMLE WW1 Sling ?

    Hi
I noticed this sling for sale on ebay item

    WW1 SMLE Rifle Sling 1916 | eBay

I would like some advice or opinions as to originality as the web seems to be not quite right to me and the brass tabs seem rusty but am no expert, and also strangely the same sling is for sale on site http://www.csmilitaria.co.uk

    Thanks Terry

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I think it's original. It's one of millions made by dozens or more manufacturers. They vary a bit in construction. The ends were made of different combinations, some would rust others not. As for duplicate sales pics, some people use a representative photo of something so generic and some try to sell on different places at one time. I don't think these slings are anything to get wrapped up over. Specially in this condition. They're available. And in better shape.
    Regards, Jim

    Thanks Jim
I might then be tempted to bid on the ebay sling but would like it for under £40 but the bay being what it is might make double that who knows. As for the one on the cs web site at £180 that’s more than I paid for the Enfield I was looking to put one on.

    Regards Terry
