No 53 Mk1 telescopic rifle scope one of various types used on the Lee Enfield Rifle and in superb conditon. Nice clear optics ( but could do with a dust). Body stamped "TEL STG No 53 MK 1" "OS 1075 GA" and " RSA" "2156", also Military crows foot. Much sought after and scarce Item.

I'm not an optics expert, but I think it's an artillery scope, not an Enfield one... IIRC, people buy them to scavange the lenses to repair other more valuable brit scopes.

Some buyer is likely pretty excited at getting a Enfield sniper scope for relatively cheap. Shame his bubble will have to burst eventually. And it will likely be just as he's showing it off to another collector.

Mind you, haven't we all done that at some point?

Books are cheaper than mistakes. At least that was once true, but even books are starting to get rediculeous these days.

Being a cheese winky I contacted the seller about this scope and...

This is a direct fire sight and was used on a number of weapons which required it for that purpose ie; anti tank weapons. It was also used as one of a number on the lee Enfield Rifle with a base mount which incorporated elevation and windage adjustment, but was not favoured because the settings where easily upset. The one for sale was aqquired from a former sniper. Hope this helps

That's DEFINITELY an artillery direct fire sight. The only Enfield snipers using an elevation and windage adjustable mount were of WW1 vintage before that scope was invented.

He's just a hustler with a 1/2 baked story using threads of truth as the "bait-n-switch", at least that's in my opinion...

That seems to be the standard ebay practice though. If you have an Enfield part, put the word sniper on to it and expect 10 times the return. For instance, the butt sling swivel with the larger opening....while it may have found it's way on to the sniper rifles, in order to allow for the leather sling to fit through a bit easier, it was not exclusive, nor rare. Yet every one that shows on ebay seems to have the "sniper" or "4T" atached to the listing.
Or how about the target swivel, just forward of the magazine? Again, not an overly rare part, they were used on the Cno7s as well, and also found their way on to many DCRA rifles. Are they really worth $35-40?
Oh, and don't forget the buffoon that was selling the Carl G scopes as Enfield scopes for a couple years, and getting outlandish prices.
Lastly, if you have a mk1 sight with the battle aperture broken, just grind it off altogether, and voila, it's now a $40 sniper rear sight.
Only good things about e-bay is that if you wait a while. all your holy grails will show up on there, and secondly, you can get cheap car parts for cheap.
