Is this normal?

I just bought an inland carbine and on closer inspection I saw that it had an underwood barrel marked jun 44, its marked inland all over except for the different barrel that I found.I don't know if its war type or post war,the serial # is 5,246,xxx. Anybody know what I have.

Probably when rebuilt. Your 5.2 Inland would have originally had an Inland barrel. Underwood, Rock-ola, Inland, Winchester, IBM and others made extra barrels for the carbine "Free Issue" program some makers like NPM and Quality Hardware did not make barrels. Underwood barrels are preferred by most collectors as their quality and finish was some of the best. So someone shot your carbine enough to wear out the barrel and it was replaced, good deal for you.

I did look down the barrel with a borelight before I bought it and the rifling looks almost new.The lands look really good.

Should make an excellent shooter. Don't feel bad about it at all - I'd guess well over 95% of all carbines have been rebuilt or upgraded regardless of what you see.

Hope you can posts some photos. Sometimes a rarity or a valuable part pops out in photos that's easily seen by these knowledgeable experts that wouldn't seem unusual enough for you to even think about.

Also, welcome to the forum! Most knowledgeable, nice, and helpful carbine guys around anywhere are on this forum.

You posted your photos fine. If you post some more with all the details you can we'll be able to help you more. Take the action out of the stock and get some photos. If you haven't taken one out, it's very easy. You just barrel band and push it forward. Once it's loose the action comes out.

Wipe a light coat of oil or grease on your barrel forward of the bayo band. This will help keep from scratching the barrel when you slide it forward. I loosen the bands screw as far as it will back out (most are peened on the end so they won't un screw all the way) and keep it slightly pryed open to ease it forward. I also push in the barrel band spring with a small wood dowel to keep from scratching it also. Then push the upper Hand guard forward. No need to remove the Recoil plate unless you can't see a marking (some are marked underneath. I try counting how many turns backed out and try re-installing with the same amount of turns. Theres a trick to hanging the barrel, we can get to that later.

Thanks for the info.My 1st question is how do you post more tahn one pic at a time?All I know how to do is pull up a pic on photo bucket,hit copy,go to where I want to post it and hit paste.Theres got to be an easier way.

I click on the Go Advanced button, then I copy and paste the Photobuckets pictures IMG in the text of my post.
Always use the PREVIEW POST to make sure you have the pics you want, where you want them. If OK then hit the Submit Reply button.

Note:
That if you move that picture in another album it will be lost here.
You might consider making a seperate Photobucket File for this carbine.
