    Pouches

Midmichigun showed a rat eaten pouch. Made me look in the garage, I didn't want to hijack Midmichigun's thread with a lot of pictures. I pulled out some different type and WW2 years pouches I have. Made a little different and materials a little different then the mid 50's pouches. And then there were also late 40's early 50's 30 round mag pouches.

Type 1 pouches These will go on a stock. Not originally designed for that function.

Type 2 pouches, will go on belts only.

I started out wanting one for each of my carbines with the correct build year. Three hundred plus later I had to stop. I had 4 times more pouches then carbines. It just got out of hand, you know how it is.

I have a type one just like the one you show that doesn't have a US stamp on it. And I'll be danged if I can get a magazine in it once its on a stock. And no way could I wedge two mags in it.

I have always assumed the no US stamp was a very early pouch. Any clue if this is so?

    Jim,
VERY nice collection... and thanks for sharing!
I suspected the pouch woud not fit (Type II) from the description, but I was more after extra mags!
You can still see the Type I damage to my stock, so slipping one on, won't damage that already prestine finish....
Here are some photos of another Type II that I have had since the late 70's or early 80's....

The back straps are tearing off now... along with the tears in the fabric itself.
I don't know how clear the photos are, but it is a: General Shirt Co. Dated: 1945.

Didn't want to jump your thread, but felt the topic fit in with my meager collection pics!

Markw; The unmarked pouch may be a USMC pouch. Is it khaki or OD? what are the marks on the back?

    Midmichigun,

Your "General Shirt Co 1945" sits right in the middle between "Gailee" & "George S. Rumley Co." on my belt pouch list.

The Carbine magazine pocket was designed to go on the Model 1936 pistol belt, and a pocket that was a little small and a stock that was a little large probably wouldn't give room for the magazines.

Its khaki and says NOTHING on the back and I see no hints of any ink marks or anything but slightly dirty canvas. The snap on the back is centered about 3/4" right of center.
