Interesting GB Auction to say the least

Seller says the gun was confiscated by Las Vegas PD. Take a look at the serial number, Inland 755xxxx. Isn't this within the block used on Inland M2 carbines?

The seller appears to be a pawn shop. Police do periodic checks of pawnbrokers looking for stolen property and maybe that's what turned up on this carbine. In which case the person reporting it stolen may have some explaining to do!

I would say it comes back stolen also.

Its actually very interesting. The serial leads us to think it was originally an M-2. But the configuration is that of an M-1. There are several glaring things that make me go "hmmmm..." Things like the Underwood 43 barrel on a very late Inland - so it was rebarreled at one point. The obvious re-park finish - so it was reparked at one point. The bolt finish matches the re-park job. The lack of wear in along the receiver rails. The very noticable difference in finish of the rear sight. The stock has no M-2 cut. The mag release is an M-1 (not the M-2 for the 30 rd mag). The wonderful butt plate screw is just "so official".

Its just too bad we can not see the complete roll stamp on the receiver ring. I actually bet it says "M-1". I am going to throw out an idea here. I wonder if it was a welded receiver from two salvaged de-milled receiver halves???? It would explain why it was reparked and then re-assembled as an M-1. It was probably stolen. I doubt that the police or 99% of the population would have recognized the serial as being in the M-2 range.

    Just my two cents worth...

Non M-2 type mag catch. It had to have been stolen or the police wouldn't have showed interest you'd think. What is the last confirmed serial number Inland used I wonder too?

The rear sight is either the original one or a replacement and has not been refinished. Receiver looks perfect. I guess we'd have to see it out of the wood to know for sure, but I've never seen a reweld that perfectly precise along the rail. The carbine (except stock) says 'new' to me, as in not used much since manufacture, except for the problem of the Underwood barrel and Parkerized bolt. The general appearance of the steel parts as a whole are basically of an original arsenal rebuild that has seen very little use or care over a long period. So, I can't say one way or another, but I would have bid on it. In other words, I doubt if there's anything wrong with it in the physical sense.
