Barrel question on 1917 Win? (pics)

Howdy, like the heading says. It`s sportized & not a bubba job either. I aquired it back in the early 70`s & have been told the barrel isn`t oringinal, but an after market sporter one. What`s your opinion? From receiver joint to end it`s 23 1/2" L. Only marks are 14" down the barrel on under side. A circle with a triangle in it with a circle in the triangle. Then an oval with VP inside it. That`s it. There is a witness mark on under side at the bar-rec joint. Also on right side of receiver under chamber is a long oval with CNS in side, what does that mean?
    Thanks in advance.

The oval with the WP ( not VP ) in it is the Winchester proof mark.

Attachment 29686the mark is VP..and yes, it is a Winchester proof mark.

Winchester used the mark "vp" to show the gun had been "viewed-proofed"; this meant the gun had been visually inspected as well as gauged and had been proof fired.
