That scooter is real enough, but it is post war. I believe the photo is from an Italian military museum.

Recoilless rifles don't kick , they're , well , recoiless. It is real , but I don't think too many were made . I have also seen a later version with the RR more slung on the right side .

Two years ago my lovely wife and I leased a car in Italy and drove around western Europe. In the french town of Saumur they have the Musee de Blindes, one of the largest armored vehicle museums in the world. So, as a former armor crewman ( 1/10th Cav 68-69) and somewhat of a museum piece myself, I managed to bore my wife with several hours of Tank talk and heavy metal lust. The scooter picture below may well be the one in the original post. The other is of myself with a fine example of an M48 of which I am quite familiar and quite fond of. Time can dull unfavorable memories perhaps. Regards Tom

I'd hate to think about straddling that thing with live ammo! Similar, The Bell P-39 has the engine mounted behind the pilot. I was talking to one of the CAF guys who flies it at air shows and he told me the 65 year old drive shaft running at high RPM right between his legs was something he always had in the back of his mind.
