2 Carbines Today + Extras

Picked up 2 carbines this morning. Had some info about them E-mailed to me along with a few misc pictures and made a offer. Seller said come get em. Gave them more than my offer after seeing both had real C tip slings.
Tear down and ID will have to be tomorrow, but from what I can see from the outside....

Underwood 2,4 mil with W coded receiver in a very nice SA stock. Underwood barrel dated 12-43. Round bolt still blue, AMCO bayo band, RIA frt sight, H in the shield Type II rear sight and a original finish PM-IP buttplate. Thinking housing might be a late Inland, possible M2 version. Flip safety and Type III HI magcatch.

Inland 5,2 mil with Inland barrel dated 5-44. Type I frt sight marked N, Type II barrel band marked //. Rear sight type II with HI marking. Parked flat bolt. Looks to be a complete WRA housing with "EW" safety and what I believe is a Type IIA Magcatch marked with the punch mark and W on a frt tooth... Please see picture. Nice looking WRA over GHD and partial CC on the stock. No cracks or repairs. Also minus any rebuild stamps except the letter A stamped on the frt of the pistol grip.

OH, Also was given these mag pouches and 6-15rd and 1-30rd mag (marked M2, thinking commercial) right?
Does anyone know anything about this hat they gave me?
The Insignia?
Is it called a Tropical? Very light weight.

It has that ole musty smell like a bag of WWII slings. Thought it could be WWII but not positive. Could barely make out the Insignia in the low lighting at the sellers.

After settling down, remembered that a IIA was still thick and would fill the slot in the rail.

Busy today doing everything but what I had planned. Was called at 7am and told come get them if you still want them. 1 hr drive each way.

Congrats Charlie! Very nice carbines. I never seem to get that lucky when it comes to real collector value carbines. Please let us know what the insides look like when you break them down.

But to be honest, I have 2 W code Underwoods, and 2 Inlands that are just before and just after this Inlands serial number. Bought these thinking about just having them around for parts.
The barrels and receivers look to be original mates.
I'm sure both will be mixers but that's ok the price was very reasonable. May sell 99% of both. Have my eye on a early WRA in the 1, mil 30 K range. Just trying to agree on a price.

Charlie, what is the "original finish" on a PM-IP buttplate? My "new" one came and it looks like there's not much finish there other than scratches and some old dried linseed oil. There's no sign of parkerizing that I can see - were they supposed to be parked or blued? The repros look blackened, like they were heated up and quenched in oil. - Bob
