303 Enfield Help

Hi all, new to the world of Military rifles(I've just got modern for now) I'm looking for some help and any info on an Enfield Rifle, I don't know the model(is that correct terminology for these?) I know it's chambered .303 Brit but that's about all, what price range do these normally go for? I guess you can say I'm looking for the basic info and value of one of these.

The two basic rifles in question would be (in very general terms) the Number 1 Mk.III of WW1 and the Number 4 Mk.I of WW2.

The No.1 is the type with wood all the way to the muzzle cap and no barrel protruding. The No.4 has a receiver backsight and a muzzle tip protruding past the foresight.

Both rifle's values can range between $100 and $5,000 dollars, give or take. You can buy reasonably nice examples of either for $150-$300, depending on their condition and where you are located.

The value of an Enfield depends on many things. First is it a rare model, then condition. Next would be if it has matching numbers. Then is it a SMLE or a MK 4. Is it British, Canadian, Australian or Indian. That being said the price can anywhere from just over $100 on up. The best thing is to visit as many sites as you can find that has Enfield's for sale. I suggest you Google "Enfield's for sale" and see what is posted before you buy.

Thanks for the help, IIRC it has the Barrel protruding past the stock, it looks like the stock is kind of a walnut color, it's $190. I didn't pay it any attention when the guy said it was .303 Brit(didn't know much about it) but now I'm hooked.... I've been doing a lot of Research, how do I tell what country this specific model is made in? Certain marks or anything?

Okay, I found a site in the Enfield links(in the Enfield forum) and it had a way of decifiring the marks but I didn't know what marks it was talking of, thanks for all the help everyone! I'll let you know how it turns out when I go back to the shop!

Yeah, they forgot about the US Property Lend lease rifles and the #5 Jungle carbine too. I use to have both, but I traded them a while back. My No4 Mk1 Savage US Property Magazine Lee Enfield was a beauty to see and shoot. It had the older two groove barrel and shot the Flat base bullets very well when I could find them, and it had standard GI front sight, with rear Peep sight. My #5 Jungle carbine was also a beauty to see, but hurt like the dickens when I shot it, compared to the heavier No4 Mk1. The Little light weight Jungle carbine had the newer 5 groove barrel and shot the Boat Tail bullets just fine. It was a real shooter at a hundred yards, and it had the rear ladder sight on it, which made shooting a lot more fun at the range. I got rid of them back when they started charging me $30.00 a box for .303 British Ammo. I know, should have reloaded, but water under the dam now. The guy thats shooting them now Loves them just as I did. Which in itself, makes me very happy to know they have an owner now that will take good care of them and enjoy them. Anyway, just thought I would mention those two that I had.

Well I thank you all for the help! I put the Enfield in layaway today(so I could pay it off eventually, had more personal things I needed the money for) the Enfield is a No 1 Mk4 from the Long Branch Factory(Canada), it has the rear peep sight on it also, has 1943 stamped in it underneath the Long Branch. The bore looked nice and shiny, the barrel is kinda rusty but I'm not really looking for a mint shape gun, just one I can shoot and say that I own a piece of history. I'm gonna have to do some stock work on it(it's kinda loose up front), and it hasn't been cut down.
