Another stock mark question!
I'm cleaning up a Saginaw stock for a friend, and the sling recess has what looks like "TRIMBLE" in small letters along the top, with TN right under that, and a large "I" in the middle of the sling recess. The stock also has the receiver serial number in 1/4"-3/8" size numbers "3512XXX" right where your nose would rest while sighting, filled in with white paint, and a faint ".U." at an angle under the number. There is the usual crossed cannon cartouche on the right side in front of the sling/oiler hole, faint and double stamped. The bottom of the pistol grip has a "0" stamp.
Tried to convince him the U meant unserviceable, and I'd give him $200 for it, but no dice. Who do you think put the serial no. on? What do the other stamps mean??

Okay, it's a Trimble stock for Inland. The serial number on the stock indicates the carbine was owned by Israel and sold back into the U.S. around 1991. .U. indicates a rebuild by Underwood. Are you saying there is a circle on the bottom of the grip? Usually there is a P in the circle. If it's a small o, maybe it's the head of a P.

No, it's a big fat "0", centered on the bottom end of the pistol grip. Maybe another Israeli stamp. Thanks for the info.

Generally, the Israeli carbines are the best of the imports. Have you found the import mark? Some pictures will help too.

All I have is the stock, and the above info is all the marks on the stock. Where would be the import mark?

If the serial number on the receiver matches the one on the side of the stock you're cleaning up, then there should be an "import" mark - probably on the bottom of the barrel. That's where it's at on my IBM that came back from Israel. - Bob

I just assumed you had the gun too. The import mark is the name and address of the importer and it would be visible with the carbine assembled, either on the barrel or receiver. But tell your friend to not try to hide the Israeli mark or the import mark, because they are a record of the carbine's history.
