My Retro M16 is Done! Have a Look

I posted about this rifle a while back and now its finally done...for now The only thing I intend on changing is the slip ring, I want a gray one. Everything is USGI except the lower and FCG. I polised the sear surface and hammer and installed a set of JP lightweight springs. The trigger pull is great now! I polished the heck out of the furniture with Mother's Mag Wheel Polish to bring out the shine and mottling. I've also included some pictures of some of the accessories I've accumulated for the rifle. Enjoy!

That weapons case reminds me of my jump days and having it strapped to me.

Since I do not know, is polishing it a personal preference? I do like the looks.

Beautiful! That is the rifle I have always wanted. I have the lower now to find the parts. Where did you get the triangle handguards. I find them on the web but they usually say they may have small cracks or mismatched and I've just never ordered any because I want a nice set.

Polishing the stock is a personal preference. Many of us retroheads like the mottled look that is brought out when you polish it. I think it adds some definite character to the rifle. Its kind of like bringing out the grain of a walnut M1 stock. Some like to have an NOS matte finish stock. Its up to you. The earliest black stock sets were shiny and the later 1970s-80s stocks were matte.

There are many sellers on gunbroker offering M16icon/A1 stocksets. For handguards I went with this guy -> SIR PLUS SUPPLY Home Page

Just send him an email with your order and ask him to match them up, he did for me and I'm not disappointed. Those guards are not what is on my rifle though. They are nice but I decided to see if it was possible to shine up a set of matte handguards, yes it is possible but boy did my right arm hurt!

Also if any of you are unfamiliar check out this reference site BUT be warned you will become infected with RBRD, Retro Black Rifle Disease hahaha -> Retro Black Rifle www.retroblackrifle.com
