    Mitchell's Mausers Questions

Do all their rifles look like the ads, or are they doing bait and switch. Whats their deal, anyways? The ones in the ads look like brand new wood, and reblued. If I was to get a "shooter's grade" would I get a rusted piece of crap and a beat up piece of wood, instead?

They're all scrubbed down, reblued, renumbered, and refinished. No Mitchell's Mauser is a historical correct rifle, they've all been refurbished by Mitchells.

The short version is that they're purposefully misleading and not worth the money at all.

You can get the same yugo mausers elsewhere in as nice a condition that are original, cost less, and are still collectible - unlike the mitchell's humped up refinished crap.

Skippy and Claven have been too gentle with their way of describing Mitchell's Mausers. Bottom line:

The two I've seen looked like the ads - no bait and switch there.

That doesn't make them collectible, nor worth the money, but they do look nice.

I'm not a collector, so that has no value to me. I just shoot them. I was just wondering what the shooter's grade entails. But it sounds like I still may do better to get a K98icon somewhere else. Probably cheaper and I could always redo the wood an get it reblued if it was just looks I was after.

Of course, there's always the M24/47 option if it's just the Mauser action I want.

If I was looking for a shooter K98icon, I'd just get a "Russianicon Capture" with a good bore. At least it's an honest milsurp that does have value for what it is.

    Yep, x2 on the RC

There are a lot of nice stocks under the Russian shellac. You also get the satisfaction of refinishing the stock the way you want. (if you go that route, but that could a whole 'nother argument for some guys.... )
