My New Babys. Yugo M48 Mauser and 2 Mosin M44's
Well here i am again bitten by the Milsurp bug. I found this forum and though it was a great place. The M48 was like unissued new when i got it. WOW what a shooter too. The M44's
here in excellent shape also. I have not sat down and shot them yet. I just got these to shoot as i do not care about collecting them. I was telling a freind about the M44's and he said hey, i have a crap load of 7.62x54 reloading stuff i bought new that you can have. So i wound up with 100 brand new Norma brass, a new set of RCBS dies and 100 sierra 150 grn. pro hunter bullets and 100 sierra 180 grn. pro hunter bullets. I intend to thin the deer herd here this fall.
I have been working on them with my AR15 and now i want to try try the milsurps. I think the accuracy is there but i will have to work on it. Hello to everyone and thanks for looking.
Brian H.

I liked my M48 it was as new condition. My M44 on the other hand, Was the biggest piece of crap I ever owned. It shot good groups. When it would discharge. I ended up replacing every spring, the trigger the box mag and floor plate before it was a rifle u could count on. And this rifle was the pick of the litter back in 2000-2001 was supposed to be factory refurbished. Which ended up meaning well we painted it in shellac. Good luck hopefully yours came from a better batch. It's a crude but nice accurate rifle once you get it to function.

M44 mosin's
Thanks for the reply. Luckily both of mine were shooters right out of the box. That cosmolene is a bear to get rid of sometime. I found i get good results by stripping the gune down to just the metal pieces including the bolt and let it all soak in kerosene overnight. Like you said not the prettiest rifles in the world but they will hold there resale value well. I understand from a friend in the surplus gun world that the m44's will be dried up really soon. So i went ahead and bought 2 while i could afford it. On the other hand the M48 is a jewel. It shoots really well and i think it will serve me good this upcoming deer season. I will be reloading for both just to see if they are more accurate. Thanks for looking. BH

Many are not aware that the M48 is the last Mauser design (military) in a long line of high performance military rifles. If I could change anything well I'd make it German...lol but What I would change is the fact that the action is shorter than the others. Anyhow. Your fend seems right I have heard the same thing. When I bought my M44 I paid 89 dollars for the pick of the litter. So both rifles obviously are good investments. And very accurate. You might already know this but encase you don't milsurplus ammo for the 8mm is full power high pressure. American made ammo for them is a complete joke. Very under powered. from what I am told also there are two different rounds for the 8mm. You want the spitzer bullet. (pointed tip)

Nice rifles! I have one M44 and it's one of my favorite rifles to shoot. It's ugly though, but to me that's what's beautiful about it. The parts are in good condition, but the stock is beat up and covered in "battle scars".

I agree. I love all three of my rifles. Going to the range in the morning to sight in the mosin.
