Question Optimum Humidity Level for Storage?

Does anyone know what (or where I could find out), the optimum humidity level in pecent, that one should maintain in a room where these old wood surplus rifles (and other antiques) would be stored?

    Thanks ...

    Regards,
    Badger

I wold think about 50% RH wold be optimal, though anything below 70% or so should prevent surface rust if the guns are oiled.

I keep the dehumidifier set to about 55% in my storage area and I've had no issues with rust or shrinking/cracked wood.

Now while "Great minds think alike and fools seldom differ", this is consistent with what I have read elsewhere.

I run a dehumidifier all summer to keep the RH at 50-55% at a temp of 20-22 C. In the winter, the temp stays the same, but the RH falls to as low as 35%. I do not humidify.

I still think that the more important part is a clean, dry, oiled surface. I suffered some bore pitting on a gun where I carelessly did not remove all traces of a water-based bore cleaner I had employed. The low RH could not prevent that.
