I'm pretty sure the importation of the M1 Carbines was forbiden but there is still no decision on the Garands.

Ottoman45 has it right. The rest is pure mythology concocted by speculators. They won't necessarily be coming back via the CMP either. More likely one of the big importers.

DaveN:
I'm 85 years old but not decrepit yet. I run two rifle matches for my rifle club each month. One match shoots a variation of the National Match Course with targets scaled down from 600, 300 and 200 yards for use on our 100 yard range. I shoot as well as run a Military Bolt Action Rifle Match using a M1903A3 Remington with a four-groove barrel. On at least one occasion each year that match will include M1s. I acquired my last M1 about two months ago, a 600,000 serial numbered Springfield. One of my M1s is a Korean import from Blue Sky. That rifle now has a heavy 7.62 barrel and has the second best trigger of my 15 M1s. It shoots knots with handloads.
I'm not a collector. I shoot my rifles, sometimes successfully. In my 17 trips to Camp Perry, 14 of them on the Oklahoma Rifle Team, I earned a Distinguished Rifleman Badge, four Presidents Hundred Brassards, a Palma Twenty medallion and an Elihu Root medal--shooting mostly an M14. In my youth I spent the first 70 days, out of the 82 days that the battle raged, on the island of Okinawa armed with an M1, where I added a Purple Heart medal to my collection.
M1s are my favorite rifle. Even though I'm ancient, in your view, DaveN, if a nice M1 from Korea was available at a good price I might add it to my stable.
