    Question F55 stamping?

    Hello all.
Was degreasing a 1944 Long Branch, noticed barrel has "F55" stamping and poorly struck proof mark which is not Canadianicon. Any ideas? Thx.

Thanks for the ideas. The proof could be Great Britainicon or India... can't tell for sure.

Fairly common replacement barrels on Long Branch rifles. Why? No idea! But they turn up much more regularly than Canadianicon rebarrels.

Thanks for the info. Any idea where the re-barreling was done? The rifle has no "FTR" markings...

Any Base workshop or Command workshop. A Command is a workshop level between Base and Field level would/could re-barrel a No4

Thanks again. So, the Britishicon Commonwealth was still servicing No. 4s in 1955 (if we assume F55 is Faz. 1955)?

We were still rebarreling and servicing them, albeit on a limited/restricted basis until the '90 or so
