Aim Surplus Ishapore 2A Range Report

After working for about a month to clean up one of AIM Surplus' Ishapore 7.62 2A's, the South African surplus 7.62 x 51 NATO Ball ammo arrived this afternoon. I immediately grabbed 20 rounds and headed to our local indoor 100 yard range for a quick proof test.

I fired most of the 20 rounds and they were grouping pretty nice. I found I only had 4 rounds left, so I put a fresh target on the trolley and ran it back out to the 100 yard mark. The range has protected TV cameras at the 50 and 100 yard points so you can check your targets without a telescope. Really sweet!

I wear tri-focal glasses, and have a hard time seeing the front sight and the target in close, let alone at a hundred yards, but I used a chunk of heavy foam for a steady rest and as you can see from the picture, managed a very respectable 4 shot group (1.75" overall with 3 of the 4 in under 5/8").

I must say that I am very pleased with this old battle rifle. The bore appeared almost unfired when I got the grease cleaned out of it. The ammo fed flawlessly from the magazine, and all casings extracted easily with no visible signs of abnormality.

A .308 this accurate for $179.95 plus a bit of shipping I didn't expect to find, but I do believe this one's a keeper!
