I'm very happy for you John
It takes a lot of fortitude to take a plunge on one of these babies. I'm so glad that it turned out right. When all is said and done, it will be a strong investment, sure to really gain value. It would certainly be the centerpiece of any collection. I've never even SEEN an IP let alone held one.
Again,
Glad it is good
Dave

At least if there is a name, there is a possible hope. As I stated regarding my IBM with property markings, It is a real great story and only a story unless I can find a link. Thanks, John
In the very first part of my post I used the word verify. I believe just as strongly as the next person that any history should be preserved, but third hand history is hard to verify. Some dealers don't mind adding history if it will help make a sale, and with no verification it adds nothing to the weapon.
This US&S 1911A1 is documented by serial number in information from Springfield Research Service found in the National Archives as being issued to a ship's Captain in WWII. No story came with the pistol, but it showed up as having a hit in SRS. Who knows where it was before it was issued to the Captain, but this part of it's history is verified.

A little additional info. I was just over visiting Chris Albright from the C.C. as he wanted to look it over for an article that is in the works for the future. He gave it thumbs up as all legit. John

Glad to hear. Chris' opinion is as good as it gets. Finding an original IP is no easy task. Congrats!!

I forgot to mention earlier. We looked the stock over using black light and red. The red light let us see the crossed cannons and part of the box, but no letters. I could not see anything under normal lighting. So that also is a good thing. John
