    No.1 Mk. V 1921 ???

Has anyone ever seen a 1921 dated Mk. V ??? I have 22, 23, and 24, but had a chap insist he has a 21. Naturally he is "kumputer illiterut" and this was some time ago, but just cleaning up my desk and found the notation I had made at the time. I remember talking to him on the phone and he insisted it was 21 and did read me the numbers off the butt socket. I do wonder if not a poorly stamped 24??
Just to toss the cat among the pigeons.......... no pictures, no gun, and hearsay....and just to liven up the day.

    No to a 1921 rifle.

The following may assist you in building a record of serial numbers.

Serial number 4532 has 1922 stamped on the butt socket and 1923 on the barrel.

I infer that this means that the receiver was finished late in 1922 and the barrel was fit/inspected early in 1923.

(We fired this rifle for the first time yesterday. It does have some bedding issues, but a safe set of hands got it on target. Won't be touching the sighting and bedding, this 90 year old girl is better left as is. It will be rarely shot. Thanks to Ned for getting it on target)

    Warren,
Have seen & owned a few over the years, but all have been 22, 23, or 24 dated. Never even heard of one earlier................

I have not seen the rifle in the flesh, due to the distance from me. I do suspect it is a poorly stamped 24. I've owned a large number of Mk. V's over the past 40 plus years and never seen or heard of a 1941 before.
By the way Roger: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
